Pip is a poor orphan boy who lives with his sister and her blacksmith husband. In a graveyard, he meets Magwitch, an escaped convict – the scene on the cover. Years later, Pip gets money from a secret “benefactor” and moves to London with “great expectations” of becoming a gentleman. He meets Miss Havisham and her daughter Estella. But money doesn’t bring happiness. Pip learns about true friendship, loyalty, and what really matters in life.
