Set in Messina. Soldiers return from war. Beatrice and Benedick trade insults but secretly suit each other. Friends plan to trick them into love. Meanwhile, Claudio loves Hero, but Don John plots to ruin their wedding by faking Hero’s shame. Hero pretends to die, then is revealed alive. Play ends with 2 weddings + Beatrice and Benedick finally admitting love.
